We determine the influence of the localized surface plasmon induced by Ag nanoparticles on the divalent europium complex. A poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)/toluene solution including europium dichloride was spin-coated onto an Ag-deposited glass substrate. Localized surface plasmon resonance was strongly induced at the emission wavelength of divalent europium complex according to the thickness of the Ag deposition. As a result of the photoluminescence measurement, the emission intensity from the divalent europium complex was enhanced in proportion to extinction of Ag nanoparticles. The enhancement of emission intensity was visualized through the confocal microscope images. The modified photoluminescence originated from the resonant coupling between the localized surface plasmon of the Ag nanoparticles and the electric dipole transition of divalent europium ions.
